At Gloucester’s Sparcatrlon Research Center, it has been found that the impulse time has a simple relationship to a number of other parameters, turning a controlled pulsed electro-erosion machining from an operational technique into a science. Now, the best adjustments and conditions for electric pulse machining can be predicted from a series of charts. A few years ago, the advent of pulsed power greatly expanded the scope of EDM applications, increasing the rate of metal removal and reducing electrode wear to negligible levels, with many of the larger components being machined. However, there are more factors to consider in order to achieve the best balance between the parameters and to obtain the best processing conditions.
