As crude oil prices continue to rise and recoverable crude oil continues to decline, more attention has been paid to plans to increase the recovery rate of old wells, including re-production stimulation or the addition of lateral diversion channels based on the original wellbore. An innovative technique is applied in carbonate formations to penetrate the polluted zone near the wellbore, creating a hole for oil and gas discharge and communicating new reservoir rocks. The new technology relies on the acid-solubilizing capacity of carbonate rock and the use of a coiled tubing to transfer the BHA to spray the acid through the high-pressure nozzle to the target formation to form a flow-through channel. This technique can be used for all open-hole carbonate formations and can be used for new wells in older and multi-lateral wells. Acid erosion diversion technology and tools have been applied globally. This article describes the downhole tools, job design, operating procedures and job examples of acid erosion diversion technology.
