作者简介威廉·萨默塞特·毛姆(William Somerset Maugham,1874-1965),英国小说家、剧作家,出生于巴黎的英国律师家庭。毛姆父母早亡后,由伯父带回英国抚养,在伦敦国王学院学医,后因文学创作成名,遂弃医从文。毛姆一生游历广泛,经历丰富,一战期间曾和海明威等作家一起为红十字会开救护车,1916年-1917年为英国做情报工作,足迹远至欧洲各国、俄国、印度和东南亚,毛姆的工作经历和游历中的所见所闻对他的文学创作都有影响。
About the Author William Somerset Maugham (1874-1965), British novelist, playwright, a British lawyer family born in Paris. After Mumm’s parents died early, they were brought back to Britain for support by their uncle and studied medicine at King’s College London. After being famed for their literary creation, they abandoned medical treatment. Maugham traveled extensively during his lifetime and had rich experience. During the First World War, he worked with writers such as Hemingway to open an ambulance for the Red Cross. From 1916 to 1917, he did intelligence work for the United Kingdom. It traveled as far as Europe, Russia, India and Southeast Asia, and Mao His work experience and what he saw and heard in his travels had an impact on his literary creation.
