Objective To investigate the effects of topiramate on brain protection in children with generalized epilepsy (SE) by measuring the plasma levels of S-100 and creatine kinase (CK-BB) in children with and without epilepsy (EP) effect. Methods Serum S-100 was measured by double-antibody sandwich method and NAC method was used to determine CK-BB. Results The levels of S-100 and CK-BB at 3 months after topiramate treatment in children with generalized seizures were significantly lower than that before topiramate treatment, with significant difference (P <0.01). Conclusion Topiramate plays a protective role in the treatment of generalized paroxysmal epilepsy
