少数民族女性书写传统历来关注母性与母亲价值,母性是民族创造力和生命力的延续。叶梅作为当代土家族女性作家的代表之一,在其文学创作中亦自觉意识到自己土家族女儿的身份,她通过作品中母神、母爱、母道、母女关系等母性主题,从自身经历出发回归文本之中,建构了一位土家族女作家的母性观。叶梅的母性观不是传统意义上的性别主义斗争与男性分庭抗礼,也不仅是对母性的关怀和歌颂,而是蕴含多元的信念,是作为文化传承的、作为爱和力量的、作为人女及人母的母性观,叶梅把母性的这种伟大品质写入历史,是对土家族文学的重大贡献。
