In the history of British literature, Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) is not only a great novelist, but also a successful poet. In his nearly one thousand poems, Mourn Poetry Group is considered to be the greatest achievement of Hardy’s poetry. Among them, The Voice and After a Journey reflect the heart of Hardy’s rich and complex inner world after his wife Emma’s death. However, Hardy did not express one of these emotions directly, but through a series of poetic techniques. This article expounds the memory and compassion of the poet Hardy for his wife by digging into poets’ ingenious expressions such as the performance of concession rhetoric, arrangement of poetic rhyme, combination of natural and visual double illusory images and careful arrangement of unknown words Unhappy marriage life regret and their own infinite melancholy, regrettable pessimism.
