认真关注一下美国文学史,我们不难发现一个奇怪的文学现象:即在欧洲大陆与亚洲大陆蓬勃发展的戏剧,在美国却迟迟难以起步。较之其小说和诗歌,戏剧的发展相当滞后。本文从历史文献入手,对清教主义与戏剧的本质进行分析。从而得出,在美国的殖民时期以及独立战争时期,历史的特定性使得清教主义与戏剧不可避免地发生了冲突,在一定程度上阻碍了早期美国戏剧的发展。
Careful attention to the history of American literature, we can easily find a strange literary phenomenon: the continent and mainland Asia, the dramatic drama has been slow to start in the United States. Compared with his novels and poems, drama has lagged behind. This article starts from the historical documents and analyzes the essence of Puritanism and drama. It is concluded that during the colonial period of the United States and the period of the War of Independence, the particularity of history made the inevitable clashes between Puritanism and drama, which to a certain extent impeded the development of early American drama.
