INTRODUCTION The presence of newly produced methane gas in modern marine sediments has posed several troublesome questions to scientists and engineers. For example: Methane bubbles weakening High-resolution seismic reflection signal disappears near surface reflectance. Garrison (1975) published a water depth map of these areas. Shallow, high-gas-bearing zones also effectively filter out the sound velocity and cause depth errors in structures hundreds of meters below.
