One of the masterpieces of Chekhov’s short stories, “People in a Sleeve” has always been the focus of attention on this ridiculous and hateful hero Belizek, the traditional interpretation of roughly: he is The loyally running dog under the tyranny of the Tsar is a stumbling block to social change because he is closed and conservative, timid and suspicious, hating and obstructing the development of new things. If we only made such a persona to show the control and stifling of freedom and humanity by authoritarian rule, is the novel too flimsy? With such doubt, I carried out a detailed reading of the novel.
