Xylan Corporation announced in mid-August that a key component of its ATM switching technology, the Dynamic Input Buffer with Output Control (DIBOC), won the U.S. national patent. DIBOC is a method of buffering input data in a digital switch. DIBOC integrates two basic techniques, input buffering and output control, using input buffers to store the data entering the switch at the input port, and output control at the output port to monitor the availability of bandwidth and to output the policy of the data.
