Of the various business elements that influence the compilation of dictionaries, the influence of publisher or bookseller factors and market factors on dictionary compilation is particularly significant. This paper explores how publishers or booksellers intervene and influence how dictionary compilation and market factors can negatively affect dictionary compilation and points out the “four” nature of commercial dictionaries: synchronicity, pragmatism, pop culture and cater to User characteristics. It is this “four nature” that determines the “contemporary word-one-off” policy of commercialized dictionaries, which results in the imbalance between contemporary and early words. In addition, the words that result from inadequate investment in independent research Inadequate systematic and in-depth description is a “bottleneck” problem in business dictionaries.
