源于古印度的石窟艺术在中国发展至公元8世纪中叶走向衰落。于此续绝之际,位于中国西南部重庆市的大足县、潼南县、铜梁县、壁山县等县境内的摩崖造像异军突起,从公元9世纪末至13世纪中叶建成了以“五山”摩崖造像为代表的大足石刻,形成了中国石窟艺术史上的又一次造像高峰,从而把中国石窟艺术史向后延续了400余年。此后,中国石窟艺术便就此停滞, Grottoes originated from ancient India art in China to the mid-eighth century ad decline. In this renewal of the occasion, located in southwestern China’s Chongqing Municipality, Dazu County, Tongnan County, Tongliang County, County County Cliff statue soaring from the end of the ninth century AD to the mid-13th century to build a "Cliff statue as the representative of Dazu rock carvings, the formation of the history of Chinese grotto art once again the peak of statues, thus the Chinese art history of grottoes to the continuation of more than 400 years. Since then, the art of Chinese grottoes has stalled,
