As the first non-Western country to modernize, Japan has proved the universality of its achievements in modernization. This article reveals the significance of Japanese experience to Japanese technology through the analysis of the examples of technology transfer and the discussion of Jidari Nishida, a well-known prewar Japanese philosopher. The paper introduces two technical developments of “branch” and “layering” Concept, and applied it to the “place” theory of Jiro Nishida. The article holds that the Japanese case reveals that technical rationality is closely related to culture in various complicated ways. Therefore, we must globalize our technological concept and not to uniquely identify it as a Western achievement.
