插屏和座屏,是中国古代传统的室内装饰用品,属于家具陈设类器物。它由古代居室中常见的屏风发展而来,尤其是受到枕屏、砚屏等小型专用屏风影响,在明清时期盛极一时,为宫廷贵族、官宦士绅甚至普遍百姓广泛使用,摆放于厅堂室内或几案桌张之上,成为装饰室内环境,美化人们生活的艺术品及实用器。清朝入关后,承袭前朝旧制,开始在宫廷中使用各式屏风,传统的插屏、座屏也得到应用。在一些传世的清宫绘画上,明确绘有康熙、雍正、乾隆诸帝使用插屏或座屏的图像。清朝中期,社会步入太平盛世阶段,宫廷贵族崇尚文化,收藏古董,制作佳器蔚然成风。清
