Progress on the research work of cavitation nuclei and cavitation inception which was conducted inCSSRC from 1983 to 1986 is summarized in the present paper. A function of the cavitation nuclei spec-trum as well as its relationship to the flow speed and pressure is given. The similarity law of nuclei popu-lation from a model medium to a prototype one is derived. A fuzzy mathematic method is proposed toproduct cavitation inception with the influence of a gas nuclei group. For vortex cavitation, it would notbe necessary to measure the nuclei spectrum in the incoming flow.
