目前,工具厂生产的端铣刀,在铣削难加工材料(模具钢、不锈钢和耐热合金钢等)的平面时,切削变形大、铣削力也较大,易引起铣刀再生颤振现象,因而耐用度很低,生产效率也不高。另外,刀垫难于轴向微调。为了获得良好的表面粗糙度,以至对刀片定位精度的要求,高到不合理的程度。所以说,一般端铣刀的被加工表面粗糙度,取决于刀片、刀槽以及刀垫的制造及安装的综合精度。最近,日本东芝工具株式会社研制成功PD8900端铣刀,获得了世界之冠“TAC产品”的称号。
