英语词典是我们在英语学习中的老师,它随时陪伴在我们周围。香港著名作家董桥曾用“不可一日无此君”来形容查阅词典的重要性。不过,一本英语词典往往很厚,内容丰富,一个单词后面带着一连串释义和用法,导致英语初学者在使用英语词典时不知该如何下手,查阅时往往过于粗浅,并存在以下三种误区:(1)只看中文释义,不看英语释义;(2)只看一条或者前几条释义,忽略词条其他细节和用法;(3)生搬硬套,不做变通。那么我们该如何正确使用英语词典,打下最扎实的英语学习基础呢?这个问题回答起来需要不小的篇幅,笔者将分
English dictionary is our teacher in English learning, it is always with us around. Dong Qiao, a famous Hong Kong writer once described “the importance of looking up the dictionary”. However, an English dictionary is often thick and rich in content, followed by a series of definitions and usage of a word. As a result, English beginners do not know how to start using English dictionaries. When reading an English dictionaries, they tend to be too superficial and have the following three misunderstandings: (1) only look at the Chinese interpretation, do not look at the English interpretation; (2) only look at one or a few definitions, ignoring the other details and usage entries; (3) apply mechanically, without modification.
