The concept of “Niche” discusses the interactive relationship between species and its environment. It is one of the focal issues in the study of ecology in the 20th century. Recently, it has become a hot object in the fields of biological semiotics and ecological semiotics. It is also in the field of art research and literary practice However, scholars seldom talked about the etymological basis of re-conceptualization of “niche ” in modern academic history. However, eco-semiotics, as emerging science, lacks importance on human s symbol “niche ”. This paper attempts to deduce the notion of “niche” in etymology, ecology, eco-semiotics and cultural semiotics as well as the differences in the construction of “niche” between man and other species.
