Objective To investigate the role of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in the pathogenesis of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and its relationship with the changes of insulin levels. Methods 85 cases of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM group) and 89 cases of normal pregnancy (control group) had been diagnosed. The changes of serum insulin, parathyroid hormone and 25-hydroxyvitamin D were compared between two groups. The linear correlation analysis. Results Compared with the control group, the level of serum insulin and parathyroid hormone increased in the GDM group (P <0.05), while the level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in the control group decreased slightly, while the GDM group decreased significantly (P <0.05 ), And the serum insulin level was negatively correlated with the level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D Conclusion 25-hydroxyvitamin D is associated with the development of gestational diabetes mellitus, and the serum insulin level is negatively correlated with the level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D
