Emily Bronte and Fitzgerald differ in the times and social environments, yet the two writers’ understanding of love and human nature are the same. Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights and Gatsby in The Great Gatsby have similar emotional experiences, both of whom lose their love for unrecognized social identities and who also hope to be able to recover Lost love. Although Heathcliff was hated by love and hate during her search for love, she experienced a change from person to “devil”. However, at the end of the novel, Heathcliff finally relented and turned to love. Gatsby did not love hate until he found love, until the last moment of his life, the love in his heart never changed. In this paper, I compare the two images of Heathcliff and Gatsby in two works, and aim to deeply interpret the interpretation of the theme of love by two works.
