广东地方铁路有限责任公司管辖的坪木线全长75km,修建于六、七十年代,设计标准低,最小曲线半径为220m,最大坡度为19‰,当前有8kmP60kg/m轨,10kmP50kg/m轨,其余均为P43kg/m钢轨,小半径曲线目前均铺设为木枕,由于木枕使用寿命短,维修困难,轨距难以保证,行车存在较大安全隐患。为了逐步减少木枕数量,提高运输行车安全。对小半径曲线铺设混凝土枕进行可行性试验。
