“屋子里的天使”和“屋子外的交际花”是西方十九世纪文学中比较令人注目的女性人物形象,比较一下这两类女性形象,我们就会发现:“屋子里的天使”主要来自现实生活中男权中心社会对女人的期望和控制,是传统男权的女性价值尺度在文学中的折射;“屋子外的交际花”不仅仅是在努力取悦资助她们的男人,她们的很多才华都用来反抗、挑战当时的环境,她们在这类事件中创造了魔力,创造了传说,表现出一个生机勃勃的灵魂,一个独立的、不可预料的神秘个体,同时她们还体现出一种坚忍不拔的勇气。
