Objective: To investigate the role of DACH1 (DACH1) protein in the genesis, development and prognosis of tongue squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: Immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of DACH1 in 51 cases of tongue squamous cell carcinoma and its corresponding normal tissues and 25 cases of tongue dysplasia. SPSS16.0 software package for statistical analysis. Results: In 51 cases of tongue squamous cell carcinoma, the expression of DACH1 in 36 cases (70.6%) was significantly lower than that in normal tissues (P <0.05). The low expression of DACH1 was associated with poor differentiation, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis. The expression of tongue atypical hyperplasia was significantly lower than that of tongue squamous cell carcinoma (P <0.05). Univariate survival analysis showed that the overall survival rate of patients with high expression of DACH1 in tongue cancer was significantly higher than that in the low expression group (P <0.05). Conclusion: The decreased expression of DACH1 may be related to the occurrence and development of tongue squamous cell carcinoma and poor prognosis, which may be helpful to the judgment of tongue precancerous lesions and provide a potential target for tumor therapy.
