This article uses the phonetic materials of Han and Tibetan pairs as well as the unearthed documents and historical documents of these two languages to verify that the place name kog yul in ancient Tibetan “Memorabilia Year” from Dunhuang is equal to gog from phonetic, geographical and historical facts It is all of the Chinese literature in the Tang Dynasty. At the same time, it also refutes the vague mistakes made by some foreign scholars on this issue. The examination of this place name (and ban’jag nag po = guardianship) reflects the historical geographical distribution of Chinese Tibetans from the perspective of linguistic geography.
