潘钟祥教授是我国著名的石油地质学家,河南省汲县人.1931年毕业于北京大学地质系,先后在前中央地质调查所和四川地质调查所工作.1940～1945年赴美留学,在堪萨斯大学及明尼苏大学地质系学习石油地质学及矿床学.1946年获博士学位回国,任中山大学教授、地质系主任、兼任两广地质调查所所长.解放后于1950年到北京大学任教授,1952年院系调整到北京地质学院,担
