Objective: To investigate the role of trace elements Se, Zn, Cu and Fe in gynecologic oncology. Methods: The contents of trace elements Se, Zn, Cu and Fe in 164 cases of gynecological malignant tumor, 53 benign tumor and 25 non-tumor hair were detected by atomic absorption spectrophotometer and XDY-Ⅰ atomic fluorescence spectrometry. Results: ① The contents of Se and Zn in the hair of gynecological malignant tumor patients were significantly lower than those of benign and non-tumorous patients (P <0.001). The contents of Cu and Fe were significantly higher than those of benign and non-neoplastic patients (P < 0.001). (2) The contents of Se and Zn in cervical cancer and endometrial cancer increased gradually with the clinical stage, while the content of Cu increased gradually. However, there was no significant relationship between the Fe and the clinical stage of cancer patients. Conclusion: The changes of four trace elements in hair have certain clinical significance for the early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of gynecologic malignancies.
