【Objective】 To clarify the effect of light intensity on mating behavior of Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner). 【Method】 Four light intensities (0, 0.5, 5.0 and 50.0 lx) were set up in this study. The courtship behavior of H. armigera was observed and recorded under different light intensities. Single gland pheromone extraction and dissection of female infestation Seminal vesicle way to detect the female lightworm pheromone sex pheromone titers and mating rate under different light intensity. 【Result】 The results showed that in the bright light (50.0lx), the female tortoise was the longest, the duration of the courtship was the shortest, and the number of the courtship was the least. The sex pheromone titers were always low and the mating rate was the lowest . In the low light (0.5 lx), the females had the shortest starting time for the courtship, the longest duration for the courtship and the highest number of the courtship. The sex pheromone of the female was always low, but the courtship rate was as high as 40% after the late stage. 【Conclusion】 Strong light (50.0 lx) can inhibit the courtship behavior and sexual pheromone synthesis and mating of female H. armigera. The low light (0.5 lx) can promote the mating behavior of female H. armigera. The relative darkness (0 lx) (0.5 lx) also promoted the cotton bollworm to complete the mating rapidly (1 h). The low light (0.5 lx) was important to the mating behavior of cotton bollworm. There was no necessary relationship between courtship and sex pheromone synthesis. This study may provide a theoretical basis for exploring the influence of light on the mating behavior of the armyworm, and may also provide some reference for the control of the behavior of the night worm by physical and chemical communication information.
