In recent years, it has become a ubiquitous issue to generate a new type of occupational disease when smoking cigarettes, arousing the attention of all countries. Gehlbach et al. (1974) named Greentobacco Sickness in patients with belching, dizziness and collapse in a tobacco company, and confirmed that the disease was caused by absorption of nicotine through the skin. This paper reports that in the rural areas of southern Kyushu in Japan, two foliar smokers showed green leaf disease, and different concentrations of nicotine aqueous solution were applied to the back of rats to observe the symptoms caused by percutaneous absorption and to infer the minimum dose causing human poisoning.
