In recent years, the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has been established in various parts of the country and gradually improved in conjunction with China’s national conditions. The use of advanced monitoring equipment, centralized manpower for artificial respirator and other assisted breathing, saved neonates that had been difficult to survive in the past, and thus played a positive role in reducing the mortality of critically ill newborns. Some NICUs also accumulated a lot of benefits. As a result, a newborn emergency care team is gradually taking shape. In order to consolidate and improve these gratifying achievements and promote work, the 9th National Pediatrics Congress of the Chinese Medical Association was held in Wuhan in October 1985.
