The Tea Party movement is a right-wing populist movement whose political position is close to that of the Republican Party. The fundamental reason for the rise of the tea party movement lies in the economic turmoil caused by the fundamental contradictions of the U.S. capitalist system and the social panic triggered by the cyclical financial crisis. It exposes the limitations and flaws of the U.S. political party system. The Tea Party, as a loosely formed but undeniably political force, has already had an impact on the November 2010 midterm elections in the United States. The 2012 U.S. presidential election is an important touchstone to test the future direction of the tea party movement.
