Objective To investigate the expression of E-cadherin (E-cad) in the lesions of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and its relationship with clinical and pathological factors. Methods The immunohistochemical SP method was used to detect the expression of E-cadherin in skin specimens of 43 SLE patients and 17 normal controls. The relationship between the expression of E-cadherin and the clinicopathological parameters of SLE was analyzed. Results Compared with the normal control group, the expression rate of E-cad was significantly different between the two groups (P <0.05). The expression of E-cad was correlated with SLE, rash, oral ulcer, light sensitivity and serositis (P <0.05), but not with fever, arthritis, renal damage, liver damage, etc. (all P> 0.05) . Conclusion The expression of E-cadherin in SLE patients with epithelial invasion was significantly increased. The abnormally high expression of E-cad may be involved in the pathogenesis of skin inflammation and skin lesions in SLE patients.
