Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei’s life was deeply influenced by Buddhist Zen. Zen culture, as an important part of the author’s heritage, appeared in the lines of his poems from time to time, displaying distant artistic conceptions and unique aesthetic taste. Different translators use their own foresight to interpret the process of delivering Zen culture, and different translations have appeared. This article will use Hans-Georg Gadamer hermeneutic theory to analyze the English translation of the word “empty” in Wang Wei’s poetry “Luchai” to explore the influence of translator’s subjectivity on the translation effect.
