刻瓷艺术源远流长,是一种传统民间手工艺术,相传起源于秦汉时期剥凿瓷釉的方法,称为“剥玉”。刻瓷始于刻镂,是我国最古老的艺术门类之一。从魏晋开始,随着陶瓷业的发展,大量精美瓷器出现,帝王、官宦和一些文人墨客在玩赏瓷器之余,很想把咏诗题文的墨迹留存于其上,以便永久保存,于是当时的艺人们便在施釉前的瓷坯上,用直刀单线刻出诗文书画的轮廓,这便形成了最初的瓷刻。清代乾隆年间,刻瓷成为一门独立的瓷器装饰艺术,距今已有260多年的历史。
