AST is “Hongzhi”. In 1980, Albert Wong, Safi Qureshey, and Thomas Yuen founded AST Research Inc in the United States. Headquartered in California. The word “Hongzhi” is taken from the Chinese names of two founders of Chinese American origin, marking the new generation of Chinese people adhering to the spirit of the Chinese people and the spirit of Keqin entrepreneurship and the legend of Yangwei Overseas. From a small-scale company that produces enhanced products for computer systems, AST has now grown into one of the world’s three largest microcomputer manufacturers. Total revenues in 1993 were as high as US$1.4 billion, which jumped from 431th in 1992 to 367th place in Fortune magazine’s list of the top US companies. As far as its growth rate is concerned, AST is one of the 20 companies that have performed the most by leaps and bounds, and thus has become a story to be greeted by the microcomputer industry.
