【Translator’s Note】: Youlin coins occupy an important position in the study of early Buddhist art. However, most of the research on the coins in China is generally introduced in the art. There is no specific imagery analysis and an in-depth analysis. The coins of the Kweichow Dynasty were produced by the western suppression method. The inscriptions are in the style of military uniform or costume of kings. On the back are the gods in the Kusanagi belief. The Buddha is only one of the gods who is not prominent among them. The early inscriptions on the coins used 佉 Lu Wen, Greek, later appeared Brahmi. Their correspondence with the images of kings and gods allows us to witness the majesty of the kings and gods of the Kusang Dynasty over a thousand years later. This paper, translated from The University of Wisconsin-Mass. Carter’s Krystal Coin article, is still useful today for many years to come.
