齿轮滚刀新标准(JB2495—78和GB—83草案)中规定:“滚刀齿侧面上齿形精度合格部分的长度,应不少于齿长的二分之一”。此项新规定对于确保齿轮滚刀重磨后的精度和提高滚刀的精度寿命有着重要意义。众所周知,用径向铲磨的方法制造齿轮滚刀。铲磨后滚刀齿侧面总要产生畸变,因此国内一般工具厂过去的齿轮滚刀产品,受到齿侧面畸变的限制,齿形合格长度很短,通常只有2~3mm,重磨几次就会很怏丧失精度,远远不能符合新标准的要求。所以研究解决齿轮滚刀铲磨工艺中的齿侧面畸变问题,是保证贯彻滚刀新国标,提高我国齿轮滚刀精度水平的一项关键。
