1.Speed Dating 速配约会
Meaning: an organized gathering of singles at which the participants converse with each other for a few minutes in order to select one that they would like to meet again.
这是时下国际最流行又最前卫的都市约会模式。speed dating起源于美国犹太人的一项传统习惯：年轻的单身男女，定期在长辈的陪伴下见面，以避免族外通婚。1999年，美国洛杉矶的犹太教拉比Yaacov Deyo制定了此项约会游戏的进行规则：每次参加speed dating的人数约为16–30人，男女各半，每对交谈时间为5–8分钟。参加者（speed-dater）在与每位异性接触之后，在一张有所有异性编号的卡片上选择自己愿意进一步单独约会的对象。快速、自由的方式使speed dating大受未婚男女喜爱，迅速在西海岸风靡起来，并快速席卷纽约、加拿大、英国等地。现在，中国也掀起了这种新式约会的旋风。这种新兴的男女相亲活动相信能为寂寞的光棍们带来惊喜，单身女士们也许会在speed dating中找到自己的Mr. Right（意中人）哦！
2. Friend网上交友
Meaning: on a social networking website to add a person to one’s list of acquaintances.
想不到friend这个最常见的词在日新月异的今天也被赋予新的意思，其词性为动词，是个互联网用语，意为“添加为好友”，也引申为“与……为友”。
► People can friend their old-time schoolmates on Facebook. If their friend does the same friending process, they’re listed on each other’s profiles.
人们可以在“面谱”网站上把自己的老同学添加为好友。如果他们的朋友也完成同样的添加程序，各自的名字会列在对方的档案上。
► Even though faculty members are making an effort to reach out, students are more likely to friend deans.
尽管教员们都努力与人为善，学生却更倾向于与教务长交友。
3. Ginormous 特大的
Meaning: to describe something extraordinarily large in size.
这个由gigantic和enormous混合而成的词已被列入今年秋季最新版的《韦氏大词典》中，意为“极大的”。
看来人们用于形容“大”的词语又要升级了。Ginormous所形容的事物当然要比gigantic或enormous所形容的事物大得多（larger than gigantic and more massive than enormous），是“特大无比的”。据词源学记载，二战期间的英国海军和空军军人发明了这个词。由此，ginormous不可避免带有强烈的嘲弄口吻，甚或常常出现在不雅的口语中；但有时也可以幽默夸张地形容某特大的人或物。
► “Mia, that 32-pound cat of yours is ginormous!” the boy living next door said jokingly.
