Since the 18th century, Chinese poetry has been translated to Britain. Early translators, mainly British missionaries and diplomats who lived in China for a long time, influenced the translation of Tang Poetry into English and rapidly expanded the literary and art circles in Britain. For more than two centuries, the English translation of Chinese poetry has produced some influential translators in the UK, such as James Legge, Zhai Lissi, Willie and others, who became the representatives of English translation of Chinese poetry. Chinese sinologists and translators who grew up after World War II, such as Waltz, Snyder, and Uwenwon, were all Americans. The center of English translation of Chinese poetry was accordingly transferred from the United Kingdom to the United States. This article explores the history of the translation of Chinese poetry in the UK, focusing on the translation of the representative figures in the translation of Chinese poetry into English and the future of Chinese poetry translation.
