According to John Bell [Nature, 2011, 477 (7362): 99-102], the method of releasing the virus by intravenous injection at the Ottawa Hospital Institute in Canada can cause a sustained and widespread infection of the tumor without harming human normal tissues. The study also shows for the first time that by intravenous injection of a virus, the tumor selectively expresses an external gene. Study selected 23 patients (7 from the Ottawa Hospital) had multiple organ metastases, conventional treatment of advanced cancer patients. These patients received a single intravenous injection of 5 doses of the virus, JX-594, and biopsy 8 to 10 days later. Evidence of viral replication in tumors was found in 87% of the two highest dose groups
