Abeichi, who has a western background in literary accomplishments and intellectual resources, began his travel to northern China in the mid-1930s for long after he was concerned about neighboring China. He later resided in Shanghai for a long time. The Chinese experience during this period had two meanings to Abe: first, he recognized the longstanding and profound strength of Chinese history and culture; second, he gradually awakened to the irrationality of Japan’s aggressive war with China and began to reflect on it. After the war, he published a series of novels about “Shanghai Wu”, expressing his understanding of China and the Chinese people. The two visits to China in 1954 and 1964 further stimulated the socialist factor in his humanism, accelerated the left leaning of his thinking, and gave new thinking to China.
