Advanced composite materials can not be used in the traditional concept of a one-time launch vehicle’s main structure. While weight reduction is important for launch vehicles, the good properties of composites are not yet attractive enough to justify the cost of existing parts and qualifying products that can replace existing metal structures design. The current carrying mission is driving the launch vehicle to the limits of its carrying capacity, with special emphasis on the need for the development of large thrust launchers in order to ensure access to space at reasonable cost. McDonnell Douglas Space Systems is actively pursuing lightweight, low-cost composite structures for advanced delivery systems. It is an active one-off carrier rocket for use in advanced launch vehicles such as Deltas, Hercules, Cosmic Gods and other launch vehicles, Provide a viable process plan.
