铸铁在高温下破坏的形式,有氧化与生长和变形开裂。为防止氧化与生长,须加入大量的如Si,Al,Cr等元素,它们在金属表面,于高温下氧化,形成连续致密的氧化膜,能阻碍氧及金属在高温下扩散,从而使铸铁具有高温抗氧化能力。这些元素还能使α→γ相变温度提高,稳定珠光体,待至高温下分解,从而使铸铁具有抗高温生长的能力。
