Objective: To understand the pollution status and serotype distribution of Legionella in the centralized air-conditioning and ventilation system in some public places in Foshan City, and provide the basis for the prevention and control of Legionnaires’ disease. Methods: A total of 106 circulating cooling water and condensate water were collected from central air-conditioning system of 30 public places in our city shopping malls (supermarkets), hotels and stadiums, and the etiological investigation of Legionella was conducted respectively. Results: Legionella was detected in 54 out of 106 samples, with a positive rate of 50.94% (54/106). Legionella were isolated from 62 strains of Legionella and two different serotypes of Legionella were detected in the same sample The effluent samples were 14.81% (8/54), of which Legionella pneumophila type 1 (LP1) accounted for 58.06% (36/62). Conclusion: The Legionella bacteria in the centralized air-conditioning and ventilation system in some public places in our city are seriously polluted, posing a potential hazard to the health of the population. Health monitoring of the centralized air-conditioning and ventilation system in public places should be strengthened.
