Due to his family ties, he received only formal education in primary schools and short-term studies at a commercial school. He is an almost entirely self-taught person. He worked hard along his own path to explore areas that his contemporaries never touched before becoming a celebrity with a monograph. In 1840 he wrote his first essay for the journal Cambridge Mathematical Journal. In 1844, he won a medal from the Royal Society for his dissertation on differential calculus. In 1849, George Boolean, a thirty-five year old, was severely apprehended as a professor at one college, despite lack of formal training.
