提起斯科特·乔普林,我们自然会将他与拉格泰姆音乐联系起来。这是再正常不过的事了,有人将他尊为爵士乐之父,有人称他是黑人钢琴家的鼻祖,这都不奇怪。初学钢琴的小朋友们,从小玩红白游戏机的80年代生人,一定会接触到他的钢琴小品《演艺人》,只不过只闻其乐不知其人而已。乔普林的拉格泰姆钢琴艺术的确奠定了他的声誉地位,但有这样一个事实或许被我们绝大多数人忽视,那就是他同时还是一位歌剧作曲家。
With Scott Joplin, we naturally associate him with Ragtime music. This is nothing more than normal. Someone regards him as the father of jazz. Some people call him the originator of a black pianist. It is not surprising. Beginning piano children, playing games of the 80’s, you will certainly come into contact with his pianist “entertainer”, but only heard the music I do not know them. Joplin’s Ragtime piano art has indeed established his reputation, but there is a fact that perhaps most of us overlook the fact that he is also an opera composer.
