  Taking a scan of the African continent,only a handful of countries have realizedpeaceful transitions of heads of state inthe past decade. Ghana, in West Africa, isone of them. During U.S. President BarackObama’s visit to the country, he praised thepeople of Ghana, saying they had workedhard to put democracy on a firmer footing,with peaceful transfers of power even inthe wake of closely contested elections.
