In a society like Brazil, where there is deep inequality and low literacy rates, the electronic media plays a decisive role. The communications industry is highly developed, with young people and women being their main consumers. This article examines how television shows with viewers capture and present new patterns of sexuality by broadcasting themes that were previously limited to adults. These television shows thus reshape the image of today’s youth in Brazil. What we see is not the appearance of a youth culture that corresponds to a well-defined group, but a massive emergence of youth programs. These programs capture and stimulate adolescents’ self-awareness and lust. They have given rise to different reactions in different social strata.
