IPv4协议是目前广泛部署的因特网协议,然而,随着Internet的发展,该协议在历经了20多年的实践与考验后,已逐渐暴露出设计的先天不足以及诸多局限,成为IP技术应用和未来发展的瓶颈制约。IPv6的出现,有效解决了网络快速发展带来的对IP地址资源紧张的问题,IPv4理论上能够提供的地址上限是43亿个,而IPv6理论上地址空间的上限是43亿×43亿×43亿×43亿个。由此基于IPv6的新业务、新应用将不断出现。
