Objective To investigate the clinical effects of evidence-based nursing on postoperative complications of peripherally inserted central venous catheter (PICC) in breast cancer patients. Methods A total of 98 patients with breast cancer admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University from May 2013 to December 2015 were randomly divided into observation group and control group with 49 cases in each group. The patients in the observation group were given evidence-based nursing care on the basis of general nursing and the control group patients were treated with general nursing. The incidence of postoperative complications was compared between the two groups. Results There was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups within 30 days after operation (P> 0.05). The incidence of complications in the observation group was significantly lower than that of the control group at the second month (P> 0.05) All P <0.05). There was no significant difference in the success rate of first puncture between the two groups (P> 0.05). Conclusion Evidence-based nursing can significantly reduce the incidence of postoperative PICC complications in patients with breast cancer and prolong the PICC retention time.
