Philippines Currently the Philippine economy is still suitable for the development of labor-intensive industries. Low wages and high worker productivity may be the strongest motivation for the development of labor-intensive industries. The export processing zone of the Philippines employs more than 28,000 workers and exported some 200 million U.S. dollars in 1981. In a sense, however, the preferences of the three EPZs in the Philippines are no more attractive than the EPZs of other countries. For example, land lease only has a term of 15 years, foreign investment companies can not own land, power supplies have problems, and some investment companies complain that electricity charges are too expensive and that they often lose power.
